DUI Chase Ends With Foot Race for NJ Driver with Suspended License

September 17, 2016 by Matthew Reisig

A Manchester Township man led Lakehurst police on a lengthy trip when they recently spotted him driving away from a liquor store and across a neighboring yard, nearly striking a house. Police tried to pull over Craig Bolzau, 48, but he accelerated instead, driving down several streets before coming to a stop, exiting the vehicle, and running away across residential lawns.

Police officers eventually caught up with him, and he was arrested for driving while intoxicated, eluding, operating a motor vehicle during a period of suspension, and reckless driving. Bolzau has a previous DWI conviction, which resulted in the suspended license.

New Jersey’s suspended license protocol has caught up many drivers who need their vehicles to get to work, school, and take care of their family. Without any sort of conditional license after a DUI conviction, many drivers have ended up in a cycle of suspensions, arrests for driving on a suspended license, and additional time added to their suspension.

Working with an experienced DWI attorney can help. Protect yourself from the worst consequences of DWI in New Jersey. Call Matthew Reisig today at 732-625-9660 for a free consultation with an experienced New Jersey DWI defense attorney.

Red Bull Delivery Driver Charged with DWI After NJ Wreck

September 17, 2016 by Matthew Reisig

Red Bull may give you wings, but it won’t get you out of a drunk driving charge. Nicholas Skokos, 28, found this out while driving the company delivery truck apparently under the influence. The truck left the traffic lane and collided with a utility pole, then a park fence at the Allaire State Park in Wall, New Jersey. Skokos sustained minor injuries and was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he was charged by police with driving while intoxicated.

Commercial drivers operate under different rules than the rest of us, and CDL drivers can be charged with DWI in New Jersey with blood alcohol levels as low as .04%. Conviction will cost you your job if you hold a CDL, and even after your driver’s license is restored, there’s little chance that a company will trust you to operate their vehicles given the liability risk.

Your best chance at coming through this with your career intact is to work with an experienced New Jersey DUI/DWI attorney. Matthew Reisig has defended clients against DUI charges for nearly 20 years, and has helped more than 1,000 drivers avoid conviction on DUI charges. Call 732-625-9660 today and talk to a DUI/DWI defense lawyer for free.

Sleeping Man Charged with DWI in New Jersey Diner

September 17, 2016 by Matthew Reisig

Did you know you can be arrested for DUI even if you’re not in your vehicle? That’s a lesson one New Jersey man learned after nodding off in the Budd Lake Diner. William J. Whelan, 44, of Rockaway, reportedly fell asleep at the counter of the diner and was subsequently awakened by a Mount Olive police officer. The officer smelled alcohol on Whelan and determined that he appeared to be impaired. Whelan was charged with DWI, reckless driving, and driving under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance.

New Jersey has some of the toughest DWI laws in the nation, and this case illustrates that it can even be charged when you’ve safely exited your vehicle. When you’ve been arrested for DWI in New Jersey, get experienced help right away. Matthew Reisig has helped more than 1,040 New Jersey drivers avoid conviction on drunk driving charges. Lafayette, NJ Man Pees In Yard, Gets DWI

September 17, 2016 by Matthew Reisig

There are plenty of ways to get popped for DWI in New Jersey, but Sean O’Hara, 30, found what may have been a new method when passing through Sparta. It seems that O’Hara was driving along Houses Corner Road the evening of Sunday, June 12, when he stopped to relieve himself. The homeowner in whose yard O’Hara was urinating wasn’t too pleased to see someone watering his grass, and called the police.

Sparta cops determined that O’Hara was likely intoxicated and conducted field sobriety tests, which he failed. A search followed, which revealed drugs in his pocket and resulted in a series of charges, including DWI, careless driving, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a vehicle, possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Not a great night for O’Hara or the homeowner whose yard was violated, but stories like this speak to how quickly a DWI stop can expand to become a laundry list of charges against you. If you’ve been stopped for DWI and related charges, get help right away. Call Matthew Reisig today at 732-625-9660 for a free consultation.

Washington Township Cop Suspended After Second DWI, Domestic Violence Incident in New Jersey

September 17, 2016 by Matthew Reisig

William McCarthy III, an officer with the Washington Township Police Department, is facing charges after he plowed into several vehicles in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, allegedly while under the influence. McCarthy, a resident of Great Meadows, was arrested for DUI and resisting arrest by Hazleton police when he was stopped at a roadblock. According to police reports of the incident, McCarthy’s SUV had significant front-end damage when it got to the roadblock, after striking several vehicles prior to the stop.

The incident occurred a year after McCarthy was found in Blairstown, parked by the side of the road with an open bottle of tequila between his legs. That incident got him a 90-day license suspension, but by the time the Pennsylvania incident occurred, his license was valid again. McCarthy is also being investigated for an apparent domestic violence incident immediately prior to the events in Pennsylvania.

McCarthy has been suspended without pay and the future of his career looks uncertain. DWI prosecution is a big deal in New Jersey, and the same is true in neighboring states. The impact of a DWI conviction in New Jersey can haunt you even if you did nothing wrong within our state’s borders. Don’t risk your future on a DWI charge. Third Arrest in a Month for Newark, New Jersey Driver

September 17, 2016 by Matthew Reisig

One arrest is usually enough to scare a person straight – not to mention sacrifice their license, in the case of DWI – but for one Jersey City man, the third time may have to be the charm.

Port Authority police stopped Jose Guallpa-Bravo, 29, in Jersey City when he was traveling eastbound on 12th Street near the Holland Tunnel. The driver gave authorities his license and registration, and their computer check showed that he had an active warrant out for a prior arrest for DWI two weeks before – and that he had been charged with another DWI just two weeks before that. Guallpa-Bravo was arrested and charged with bail jumping and various traffic violations. His matter will be heard in Jersey City Municipal Court.

Dealing with legal problems head on is the best way to get through them, and an experienced DWI attorney can help you mount an effective defense against DWI charges in New Jersey and protect your ability to drive. Call Matthew Reisig today at 732-625-9660 for a free consultation with an experienced New Jersey DWI defense lawyer.
