Former NJ Congressional Wannabe Charged With DWI After Crashing Into House

May 25, 2018 by Matthew Reisig

Voters in New Jersey’s fifth district might be breathing a sigh of relief about their electoral choices after a former candidate for its congressional seat was charged with drunk driving after crashing his pickup truck into a house in Newton.

Tod A. Theise, 55, of Hackettstown, was allegedly driving drunk with an open container of alcohol in his car around 2:00 in the afternoon on New Year’s Day when he lost control of the vehicle and it slammed into a house on High Street.

The crash reportedly caused serious damage to the house, which was ultimately determined to be an unsafe structure as a result.

Theise was charged with DWI, refusal, careless driving, and possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle, and released to a sober adult pending a court appearance.

In 2010, he mounted a campaign to unseat former Representative Scott Garrett, who later lost the 2016 race to current Representative Josh Gottheimer.

Theise has not sought elected office since that race, and now it seems likely that he’s out of the politics game for good.

Elizabeth School Board Member Nabbed for DWI in NJ

May 25, 2018 by Matthew Reisig

A member of the Elizabeth School Board, who also serves as a firefighter in the community, has been charged with DWI after crashing into another vehicle at an intersection in Linden on October 15, according to NJ.com.

The incident occurred around 3:00 a.m., when Daniel Nina attempted to turn left from Route 1 North onto South Park Avenue.

His Kia struck a Chevy that was driving south on Route 1, causing minor injuries to the 56-year-old Chevy driver. Nina, 40, was also charged with careless driving.

Through his lawyer, Nina has strenuously denied driving drunk, with attorney Edward Kologi telling the press, “We will vigorously defend any allegations of inappropriate or unlawful conduct by Mr. Nina.”

It makes sense that he’d fight hard – public servants, be they elected officials or first responders- are generally held to a different standard in the public’s mind.

Nina joined the Elizabeth School Board in January of 2016, and was backed by major figures in the local political establishment.

As a firefighter, Nina has been recognized for bravery by the Fireman’s Mutual Benevolent Association.

According to a spokeswoman for the City of Elizabeth, the city will “deal with any discipline after the legal process is completed.”

If you’ve been charged with DWI in New Jersey, there’s a lot riding on the outcome of your case. Call Matthew Reisig today at 732-625-9660 for a free consultation with an experienced New Jersey DWI defense lawyer.

Rapper Fetty Wap Faces 15 Counts After Drunk Drag Race Incident

May 10, 2018 by Matthew Reisig

New Jersey’s own Fetty Wap is in hot water after he was caught drag racing with another vehicle on the Gowanus Expressway in Brooklyn.

According to police, Wap, whose real name is Willie Maxwell, was driving a black 2012 Mercedes westbound at approximately 100 miles per hour around 1:00 a.m. on Friday, November 3.

He was racing Zane Richards, 29, of Woodland Park, New Jersey, who was driving a 2008 Chevy Impala, also at speeds around 100 miles per hour.

Aside from the excessive speed, the pair were also making sudden lane changes, tailgating other drivers, and at one point, raced through an active construction zone.

To make matters worse, once Wap was pulled over, he gave police his New Jersey driver’s license, which is currently suspended.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Wap also showed signs of intoxication, and blew a .09 on a field sobriety test. A second test at the police precinct confirmed the initial result.

Both men are facing 15 counts related to the incident, including reckless endangerment, illegal speed contest, DWI, reckless driving, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, unsafe lane change, illegal signal, driving while alcohol impaired, and four speeding violations. Wap was arraigned the following morning.

If you’ve been arrested for DWI, a lawyer can make a big difference in your case.

Drunk NJ Driver Causes 9-Car Wreck in Pennsylvania

May 10, 2018 by Matthew Reisig

A man driving with a suspended New Jersey driver’s license is facing serious charges across the border in Pennsylvania after causing a 9-vehicle-accident that left another driver injured.

Responding to calls of shots fired, Easton, Pennsylvania, police arrived on the scene to find the massive wreck, with driver Raymond Shields, 28, too drunk to speak or perform field sobriety tests.

Another driver, who had been in a gray Honda Civic, suffered what police called a “serious bodily injury” and was transported to the hospital.

Shields made this very bad situation worse by providing police with a false name.

Eventually, officers located his driver’s license and learned that it was suspended, and that Shields has an outstanding arrest warrant in Essex County, on drug-related charges.

Shields is currently residing in Northampton County Prison after failing to post bail for a host of charges, including DUI, vehicular aggravated assault, giving a false ID to police, driving with a suspended license, and reckless driving.

When a DUI arrest leads to more serious charges, you need experienced help.

NJ Drunk Driver Demands Cops Shoot Him In The Head

May 10, 2018 by Matthew Reisig

A young Hopatcong man caused a commotion recently after striking a curb with his car while driving drunk.

On October 9, Hopatcong police received a report that a black Jeep had struck a light post as it exited the town, and arrived at the scene shortly thereafter.

They determined that the light post was intact, but a vehicle had struck the curb near it.

At the local Quick Chek, they found a black Jeep with body damage indicative of the struck curb, and waited outside for the driver to emerge from the store.

His arrival likely did not go the way they expected.

First, Joseph Hannivig, 24, blew off the damage by saying the car was a rental.

He then told police that he’d been drinking at home earlier, and then had more to drink at a local restaurant.

He was unable to complete NJ officer’s field sobriety tests, and was taken into custody.

At the police station, Hannivig became combative as officers attempted to test his blood alcohol level, demanding that they shoot him in the head and challenging them to physically harm him.

Hannivig was ultimately charged with DWI, refusal, careless driving, and reckless driving, but officers first opted to take him to a hospital for further evaluation.

When you’ve been arrested for DWI in New Jersey, regardless of the circumstances, an experienced DWI defense lawyer can make a big difference in your case.

Napping Driver Nabbed for DWI In New Jersey

May 10, 2018 by Matthew Reisig

If you’re going to be drinking, it’s important that you choose wisely when it comes to where you sleep it off.

One New Jersey driver learned the hard way that a Wawa parking lot is not a good choice.

It happened on October 26, when employees of the Wawa on Route 9 in Lacey called police to report that a woman was sleeping in a car outside.

Officers Martin Julian and Patrick Watkins arrived at the scene at 7:23 p.m. and found Jaymee Tice-Britton, 35, asleep behind the wheel in her vehicle.

Media reports say that an “investigation” occurred, which may have included a visual search of the interior of the car, field sobriety tests, and questions intended to determine whether Tice-Britton had been drinking.

Apparently, the investigation yielded results, because Tice-Britton was taken to police headquarters and now faces charges of reckless driving, DWI, and had her car impounded pursuant to John’s Law.

All in all, not a good evening for the Forked River woman.

If you’ve been charged with DWI and related charges in New Jersey, get the kind of help that can make a difference.
