Trenton Man Too Drunk to Get Home in NJ; Asks 11-Year-Old to Drive

March 6, 2018 by Matthew Reisig

In a bit of parenting we can’t recommend, a 33-year-old Trenton man was allegedly so intoxicated while driving with his 11-year-old son that he told the boy he couldn’t remember where home was.

He then asked the child to take the wheel.

According to press accounts, Jorge Garcia drove to Hamilton on a Friday evening to pick his son up from the boy’s grandmother’s house. He then returned to Trenton.

Once in Trenton, Garcia, who was allegedly heavily intoxicated, became disoriented and asked his son if he’d drive the pair home.

The boy was understandably frightened, and called his grandmother. She left Hamilton to come and retrieve her grandson at the intersection of Hilton Street and Revere Avenue.

When she arrived, Garcia was passed out beside his car. She called police to the scene. They in turn called an ambulance, and paramedics confirmed that Garcia’s blood alcohol level was way beyond the legal limit.

Garcia has been charged with DWI and endangering the welfare of a child.

It seems unlikely that Granny will be letting her grandson get in a car with his father anytime soon.

Hackettstown Woman Grabs DWI After Stumbling Into Convenience Store

March 2, 2018 by Matthew Reisig

New Jersey Drunk Driving Charges Defense Lawyer

For one Hackettstown woman, the choice to stagger into a convenience store at 2:20am for some snacks- and several that preceded it – have led to a string of charges.

According to police, Stella Pastucci, 47, pulled into the Quick Chek on Route 182 just after 2:00 in the morning, striking a pole with her vehicle as she did so.

She then stumbled into the store, where staff alerted police to the accident outside and that the driver was inside.

When an officer arrived, he spoke to Pastucci and noted that she had a strong odor of alcohol about her.

Though she was not in her car at the time of her interaction with the officer, she was arrested and charged with DWI, careless driving, DWI in a school zone, and refusal.

She was later released, pending a court appearance.

NJ State Assemblywoman Goes Off on Cops in DWI Arrest

February 9, 2018 by Matthew Reisig

New Jersey DUI Defense Lawyer

Following an open records request from The Trentonian newspaper, bodycam footage has emerged of an R-rated tirade from a New Jersey assemblywoman as she was arrested for DWI in April.

Assemblywoman Maria Rodriguez-Gregg, 35, who represents parts of Atlantic, Burlington, and Camden counties, was sitting at a red light in Mount Laurel the night of April 28 when another vehicle rear-ended her, prompting police to come to the scene.

While Rodriguez-Gregg was not responsible for the accident, officers claimed they smelled marijuana in her car and believed that she was intoxicated.

This didn’t sit well with the Assemblywoman. “I have don’t nothing but support the police,” she tells them on the video. “I am even one of your number one supporters politically. F—ing a–holes!”

She denied smoking marijuana, telling police that she had been smoking cigars in her car. “Are you serious right now?” she asked police. “I’m a sitting assemblywoman. Do you really think that I’m f—ing smoking marijuana at this time of night? All right, I’m calling my lawyer.”

Police threatened to charge her with obstruction if she didn’t exit the vehicle to allow a search.

When they did finally execute the search, no marijuana was found.

She refused sobriety tests on the grounds that the police were harassing her, and she was arrested and charged with DWI, reckless driving, and obstruction of justice.

Blood tests showed “some indication of alcohol,” but no signs of marijuana.

Rodriguez-Gregg has fought all charges in the intervening months, and in August, she announced that she would not seek re-election. She is the first Republican Hispanic woman ever elected to the New Jersey legislature.

Mercer County Assistant Prosecutor Nabs Himself a DWI

February 7, 2018 by Matthew Reisig

Mercer County Assistant Prosecutor Stephen Parrey, 28, has quite the pedigree.

Aside from working his way up in the County Prosecutor’s Office from a legal assistant, he’s also the son of Trenton’s police director.

Now he’s exploring other areas of life and law, most recently by being arrested for drunk driving in Hamilton.

Details were sketchy because the department’s public information office was closed over the weekend, but a spokeswoman for the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that he’d been arrested.

Parrey’s father, Ernest Parrey, Jr., also acknowledged the arrest to reporters, saying, “We love him and support him. We’ll be there for him through this process.”

It’s unclear whether the younger Parrey will face consequences at work because of a DUI arrest.

He was sworn in as an assistant prosecutor last December, and seniority, or lack thereof, can often play a role in how prosecutions can affect one’s professional life.

While it’s never a good idea to be arrested and potentially make your employer look bad, it’s even worse when you work in a position of public trust.

Stephen Parrey likely has a difficult road ahead in his career.

NJ Cop Wanted in PA After Failure to Appear for DUI Trial

February 7, 2018 by Matthew Reisig

Experienced New Jersey DUI Attorney For Drunk Driving Cases

A troubled police officer whose history of substance abuse led to his suspension in Washington Township has earned an arrest warrant in Pennsylvania after failing to appear for DUI trial in Pennsylvania.

In June, William McCarthy, 46, allegedly crashed into cars in two separate Pennsylvania towns while driving drunk.

He was ultimately arrested at a roadblock in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, but not before his vehicle had struck two occupied vehicles nearby.

He had continued to drive despite the airbag in his SUV having deployed.

He was charged with DUI, resisting arrest, reckless driving, and accidents involving damage, while police in Tamaqua were investigating an earlier case of an SUV driving the wrong way on a one-way-street, which ultimately sideswiped a parked car and then fled.

McCarthy was later charged in this case, too.

A year earlier, McCarthy had been arrested for DWI, and his wife said that he’d been a heavy drinker for years.

Though they had tried to get help for him, she said that there were family problems at the time that may have pushed him over the edge.

It’s not clear what happens to McCarthy next. Media attempts to contact his attorney went unanswered.

Drunk Driver Drives to New Jersey Police Station to Pick Up Drunk-Driving Boyfriend

August 11, 2017 by Matthew Reisig

A word of advice: If you’re drunk, it may be best if you don’t drive to your local police station to pick up a loved one who’s been arrested for DWI.

If it sounds like common sense, you should know that this exact scenario happened recently in Riverdale, New Jersey.

Riverdale police had arrested 41-year-old Stefano Mari, a resident of Mendham, and charged him with DWI after a witness reported a possibly intoxicated driver.

He was brought to the station, and after processing, contacted his girlfriend, Alexsandra Silvero, for a ride home.

Silvero, from West Orange, made her way to the police station, where officers began to suspect that she herself was intoxicated.

Eventually, they charged her with DWI as well.

For police, it must have been an easy day of catching drunk drivers, but for Mari and Silvero, it’s a giant headache with potentially far-reaching consequences.

If you’ve been arrested for DWI in New Jersey, you should know that an experienced DWI lawyer can make a big difference in your case.
